General provisions on the carriage of baggage

Baggage transportation is carried out on the basis of the «Rules of Air Transportation of Passengers and baggage» by Armenian Airlines LLC.

The passenger's baggage is accepted for carriage as checked baggage and is transported in the baggage and cargo compartments of the aircraft. Hand luggage is carried in the cabin of the aircraft.

The passenger's checked baggage must be carried on the same aircraft on which the passenger is traveling. If such transportation has become impossible, Armenian Airlines LLC must transport such baggage by an aircraft that performs the next flight to the passenger's destination.

The Armenian Airlines LLC has the right to refuse to transport a passenger's baggage if the weight, number of seats, contents, size or packaging do not meet the requirements of these Rules.

The baggage of a passenger who did not show up for boarding the aircraft after check-in (including the baggage of a transit passenger who did not show up for boarding and his hand luggage located in the cabin of the aircraft) are subject to removal from the aircraft and mandatory inspection.

In order to ensure flight safety, the following dangerous substances and items are not accepted for carriage in checked baggage and in things carried by passengers:

  • objects that can cause harm to the aircraft, persons on board (or property), animals and birds (except for pets (birds) and service dogs), insects, fish-planting material, reptiles, rodents, experimental and sick animals, as well as objects and substances whose air transportation as baggage is prohibited by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, international treaties of the Republic of Armenia and the legislation of the country to, from or through the territory of which the transportation was carried out;
  • explosives, explosive devices and objects filled with them;
  • compressed and liquefied gases;
  • flammable liquids;
  • flammable solids;
  • oxidizing substances and organic peroxides;
  • toxic substances;
  • radioactive materials;
  • caustic and corrosive substances;
  • toxic and toxic substances;
  • firearms, cold and gas weapons (except in cases and in accordance with the procedure established by legislation of the Republic of Armenia);
  • gas canisters, pepper sprays, etc., containing or disabling a substance.

A detailed list of dangerous substances, weapons, explosives, other devices or items that are prohibited or restricted for carriage on board an aircraft by crew members and passengers is contained in the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO Doc 9284).

Substances and items that can be transported by crew members and passengers in compliance with the required conditions:

In checked baggage in cargo, baggage compartments of an aircraft with isolated passenger access to baggage during flight:

  • crossbows, spearfishing rifles, checkers, sabers, cleavers, scimitars, broadswords, swords, swords, bayonets, daggers, knives: hunting knives, knives with ejecting blades, with locking locks, imitators of any type of weapon;
  • household knives (scissors) with a blade length of over 60 mm;
  • alcoholic beverages containing more than 24%, but not more than 70% alcohol by volume in containers with a capacity of no more than 5 liters, in containers intended for retail trade – no more than 5 liters per passenger on domestic flights and 2 liters per passenger on international flights;
  • liquids and alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content by volume not exceeding 24%;
  • aerosols intended for use in sports or household purposes, toiletries (including aerosols), such as hair sprays, perfumes, colognes and alcohol-containing medicines. Exhaust valves of cans, which are protected by caps from spontaneous release of contents in containers with a capacity of not more than 0.5 kg or 500 ml – the total weight of all products is not more than 2 kg or 2 liters per passenger;
  • a medical thermometer containing mercury in a standard case – one per passenger.

Note

Dangerous objects and substances detected during the pre-flight inspection of the passenger, which can be used as a weapon of attack, but are not prohibited for carriage on board the aircraft, are packed by the passenger and transported as checked baggage.


In things that are with passengers:

  • medical thermometer, mercury-free;
  • mercury tonometer in a standard case – one per passenger;
  • a mercury barometer or pressure gauge packed in an airtight container and sealed with the sender's seal;
  • disposable lighters – one per passenger; cigarette lighter (small package of safety matches); no more than one unit per passenger; must be carried "with you"; must not contain nonabsorbed liquid fuel (with the exception of liquefied gas); if a cigarette lighter is powered by lithium batteries, each battery must comply with the restrictions provided for in paragraphs a), b), g) of the section "Lithium batteries" and paragraphs b), c) of the section "Portable electronic smoking devices powered by Battery operation" of the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (ICAO Doc 9284);
  • 3% hydrogen peroxide – no more than 100 ml per passenger;
  • liquids, gels and aerosols classified as non–hazardous in containers with a capacity of not more than 100 ml (or equivalent capacity in other units of volume measurement), packed in a securely closed transparent plastic bag with a volume of not more than 1 liter - one package per passenger;
  • liquids purchased at duty-free shops at the airport or on board the aircraft must be packed in a securely sealed (sealed) plastic bag that provides identification of access to the contents of the package during the flight, on which there is reliable confirmation that this purchase was made at airport duty-free shops or on board the aircraft on the day (days) of the trip.

Note

Liquids in containers with a capacity of more than 100 ml are not accepted for transportation even if the container is only partially filled, with the exception of:

  1. Medicines, special dietary products, baby food, including mother's milk, in the amount necessary for the duration of the flight;
  2. Medicines containing narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, in the presence of documents provided for by international treaties of the Republic of Armenia, including acts constituting the law of the Eurasian Economic Union, and (or) legislation of the Republic of Armenia, confirming the appointment of the passenger of these medicines with indication of their name and quantity, in the amount necessary for flight time;
  3. Biological materials if the passenger has documents stipulated by international treaties of the Republic of Armenia, including acts constituting the law of the Eurasian Economic Union, and (or) the legislation of the Republic of Armenia establishing the procedure for the transportation of biological materials.

Transportation of medicines

When transporting liquid medicines with a volume of more than 100 ml in hand luggage, it is mandatory to have a prescription from a doctor or an extract from the medical history with appropriate notes, certified by the signature of the attending physician, the chief physician and the seal of the medical institution.

Medicines that are included in the list of potent substances for movement across the customs border are subject to mandatory written declaration. For potent drugs, the passenger must have with him:

  • relevant medical report: a prescription from a doctor, an extract from the medical history with appropriate notes, certified by the signature of the attending physician, the chief physician of the medical institution and the seal of the medical institution;
  • the medical report should indicate the name of the potent drugs taken, their dosage and the exact time interval of the course of treatment;
  • the amount of these drugs must strictly correspond to the dosage and course indicated in the medical report;
  • in some cases, it is necessary to present a receipt confirming the legal purchase of a medicinal product;
  • sometimes you need to present a certified translation of these documents in English.

The carrier has the right to make a decision on the introduction of additional measures to ensure transport (aviation) security on flights with increased danger, as a result of which it is prohibited to transport the following items in the cabin of the aircraft:

  • corkscrews;
  • hypodermic injection needles (unless medical justification); knitting needles;
  • scissors with a blade length of less than 60 mm;
  • folding (without lock) travel, penknives with blade length less than 60 mm;
  • mercury tonometers;
  • mercury barometers or pressure gauges.

Products and substances that can be carried in the passenger's hand luggage with the permission of Armenian Airlines LLC:

  • dry ice for cooling perishable products -no more than 2.5 kg per passenger (Doc. 9284ICAO);
  • small cylinders (weighing up to 5 kg) with gaseous oxygen or air necessary for for medical purposes (ICAO Doc. 9284);
  • mercury barometer or thermometer carried by a passenger who is an employee of the federal executive authority in the field of hydrometeorology. The barometer or thermometer must be packed in a durable outer packaging kit containing a sealed inner liner or bag made of a durable impermeable or puncture-resistant mercury-resistant material that prevents mercury leakage from the package regardless of its position. The carrier (aircraft commander) must have information about the barometer or thermometer.

Passengers are not recommended to include fragile and perishable items, banknotes, jewelry, precious metals, computers, electronic means of communication, monetary obligations, securities and other valuables, business documents, passports, identity cards, keys and other similar items in their checked baggage.

The passenger is responsible for the carriage in baggage of items prohibited for carriage or handed over for carriage without complying with the requirements and conditions of carriage established by these Rules.

Each piece of checked baggage must have a serviceable package that ensures its safety during transportation and processing and excludes the possibility of harm to passengers, crew members, third parties, damage to the aircraft, baggage of other passengers or other property.

The connection of two or more things with separate packages in one place is not allowed.

Baggage with sharp, protruding objects in its packaging, as well as baggage in faulty packaging, is not allowed for transportation.

Baggage that has external damage that does not affect its safety during transportation and handling and cannot cause harm to passengers, crew members, third parties, damage the aircraft, baggage of other passengers or other property, may be accepted for carriage as checked baggage with the consent of the Armenian Airlines LLC. In this case, the presence and type of damage are confirmed by the passenger's signature.

The Armenian Airlines LLC has the right to refuse to accept the passenger's checked baggage if the baggage is not placed in a package that ensures its safety under normal handling conditions.

The Armenian Airlines LLC is obliged to ensure that passengers are informed of the reason and duration of any delay in the delivery of baggage and to ensure that baggage is handed over to passengers.

The passenger is obliged to receive his checked baggage after presenting it for delivery at the destination on the basis of a tear-off coupon of a numbered baggage tag.

Baggage collection is carried out at the airport to which the baggage was accepted for transportation. However, at the request of the passenger, the baggage may also be issued at the point of departure or at an intermediate point of embarkation, if the issuance of baggage at these points is not prohibited by the rules of state bodies and if the time and circumstances allow for the issuance.

In the case of such baggage collection at the point of departure or at an intermediate boarding point, all amounts previously paid to the carrier related to the carriage of this baggage can be refunded only with the consent of the Armenian Airlines LLC.

If a person claiming to receive baggage cannot present a detachable baggage tag coupon, the Armenian Airlines LLC may issue baggage to such a person only if sufficient evidence of their rights to this baggage is presented. It is mandatory to draw up an act on the issue of such baggage.
